On the weekend of the 6th of May Shanghai’s 世纪公园 was transformed into an epicentre for MIDI’s (迷笛) latest creation spreading positive environmental vibes. These vibes were specifically related to protecting moon bears and enjoying good music.
The event was split into two stages: one to satisfy those who came to dance, the other – the need to throw the bull horns high in the air. The choice of heavy metal - one of music’s most epic genres - to portray one of nature’s most epic animals is no mistake; drawing in mass crowds across the 3 days, it wasn’t a bad move either.
Despite the excitement of the event there was constant reminder of the message that 迷笛 were there to give. A pamphlet handed out throughout the weekend illustrated the use of bear bile in traditional Chinese medicine and the damaging effect that it is having on the Moon Bear population. For those that can read Chinese or appreciate cute drawings of bears, an online copy of the pamphlet can be found here.
On the weekend of April 30th an identical event was hosted in Beijing’s浪岛公园.
