GREEN QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Why are we being forced to choose between the economy and the environment? We tend to forget that without an environment we would not have an economy, as everything we consume and I mean everything comes from our environment."

~ Franke James (contemporary artist, photographer, writer)

Love Green: Bike Parade, In Brief

INTRO 2010: Love Green Bike Parade from CBD to 798

I and fellow green-hearted techno fans embraced INTRO 2010's "Love Green" theme and joined the Bike Parade to the music festival last Saturday.

Music blaring from our bikes, we left a techno trail from CBD to 798's D-Park [photo courtesy of Vivian Yeung]. Converging on D-Park from Wudaokou and Gulou, more bikers joined this low carbon way to China’s biggest outdoor electronic music festival (more on the festival is coming soon).

Keeping it Green: NLGX Mission to "Preserve...Create"

Ed Hung speaking at the first Eco=Chic

NLGX, which was featured at last month's Eco=CHic, continues to draw attention for its "Preserve...Create" design mission.

Recycling old materials to create accessories, such as Accupuncuture Record's fliers and posters to create huang bao wallets, this brand pushes the preserve, do not destroy message.

Eco=Chic Kicks Off

Currie Lee, designer/owner of DimSum of All Things Asian, speaking at Eco=Chic

Beijing's style watchers are buzzing with the recent kick-off of China Fashion Week. But only a few weeks before China's top designers debuted their Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 collections, the environmentally conscious and fashionable gathered at Lantern for ECO=CHIC (生态=时尚). This monthly party for the green and stylish also showcases local designers and retailers with green goods.

Inspired by TRASHION, this month's ECO=CHIC theme, I wore my eco-friendly bubble wrap dress to Lantern. A dress made of bubble wrap can keep you surprisingly warm -- plastic doesn't breathe, which is perfect for chilly evenings!

GtB Bike Bunny Reports in

Scorching hot daytime temperatures? Rush hour traffic through some of the most congested streets in the city? No problem for the Greening the Beige Bike Bunnies!

Last week nearly 200 bicyclists including members of Greening the Beige joined The Beijing Green Train, an event launched by The China Charity Challenge to directly benefit Roots & Shoots - Jane Goodall Institute environmental education programs in Beijing. The goal of this 10 kilometer ride was not only to raise money for charity but also to promote awareness of carbon polluting transportation alternative options. In a city where access to clean air is widely recognized as a scarce public resource, reducing our carbon footprint is one step towards more record-breaking blue sky days.
