GREEN QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Why are we being forced to choose between the economy and the environment? We tend to forget that without an environment we would not have an economy, as everything we consume and I mean everything comes from our environment."

~ Franke James (contemporary artist, photographer, writer)

Announcing Ford Motors annual CEGC awards that distribute grants to worthwhile environmentally focused projects across China. We are raising awareness of the opportunity for great projects to win grants to go towards continuing their great work in everything from grass roots communication projects to agenda changing sustainability NGOs.

We would like to reach NGOs, not for profits, schools and university networks and there is an opportunity for all sorts of organisations and also individuals to benefit from this funding so please pass the word to anyone you might think relevant.

CITY WEEKEND BEIJING SAYS:

Real life stories rarely flow in neatly packaged arcs, outside the constructed narratives of films or books. Most events happen in disjointed jags, starts and fits, and this clunky sense of time and place comes through in Galleria Continua's latest group exhibition, Rem(a)inders.

Enjoy and Explore China through EcoTourism! GtB recommends...

The Great Wall Adventure Bicycle Challenge

Just North of Beijing is some of the best riding in China. Roads sponsored and paid for by Beijing are undoubtedly in the best condition in all of China. Second to this is the fact that many of these roads meander through some spectacular rock formations and valleys. We seek the places beyond the normal “go-to” tourist destinations choosing not only stunning locations but peaceful and safe.

# THE BIG CHANGE
Three projects explore how the city can go GREEN, GRASSROOTS and GENETIC!

Innovative forms of collective engagement, long-term integrated strategies and sheer computer power offer urban sustainability fresh opportunities.
This month's projects introduce incentives and ideas that start to break down the brutal top-down market-driven planning of the contemporary Chinese city.
The goal: a hybrid of large-scale and intricate development, of embedded technology and natural systems, of rigid green boundaries and continuously evolving urban spaces.
