REM(a)inders - Trash Art Installation @Galleria Continua

CITY WEEKEND BEIJING SAYS:

Real life stories rarely flow in neatly packaged arcs, outside the constructed narratives of films or books. Most events happen in disjointed jags, starts and fits, and this clunky sense of time and place comes through in Galleria Continua's latest group exhibition, Rem(a)inders.

Adventure Rides from the China Charity Challenge (CCC)

Enjoy and Explore China through EcoTourism! GtB recommends...

The Great Wall Adventure Bicycle Challenge

Just North of Beijing is some of the best riding in China. Roads sponsored and paid for by Beijing are undoubtedly in the best condition in all of China. Second to this is the fact that many of these roads meander through some spectacular rock formations and valleys. We seek the places beyond the normal “go-to” tourist destinations choosing not only stunning locations but peaceful and safe.

DYNAMIC CITY FOUNDATION - Coming Attractions

# THE BIG CHANGE
Three projects explore how the city can go GREEN, GRASSROOTS and GENETIC!

Innovative forms of collective engagement, long-term integrated strategies and sheer computer power offer urban sustainability fresh opportunities.
This month's projects introduce incentives and ideas that start to break down the brutal top-down market-driven planning of the contemporary Chinese city.
The goal: a hybrid of large-scale and intricate development, of embedded technology and natural systems, of rigid green boundaries and continuously evolving urban spaces.

Urban cycling is growing in this huge metropolis with more and more people enjoying the fun of riding on single speed bicycles especially with a fixed wheel (called fixed gear bicycle). Already last year the Beijing Fixed Gear Club arranged China's first event around these bikes. This year with an even bigger event all people riding on fixed gear bikes are invited to come and join the Alleycat on August 14th (4pm Worker Stadium East Gate) and the Bunny Hop, Track Stand and Trick Contest (8:30pm) on the same day.

*Microcystis (Blue green algae)* EcoArt Show

The profound impact of human civilisation and technology on our planet is an ongoing source of concern for many of us. Research indicates that China is one of the many countries which have problems with blue green algae or cyanobacteria blooms. The species which affects Beijing waterways is Microcystis.

SCRATCH - The Chaplin Edition

Start: 2010-08-22 14:00

End: 2010-08-22 20:30

The Beijinger reports:

From 2pm on Sunday, August 22, Vicky Mohieddeen of Beijing’s Electric Shadows short film group will be conducting a Chaplin-themed “scratch” workshop. Like Electric Shadows' earlier workshop in May, the event will give all participants a chance to make their own film on the spot, by scratching, tearing, and painting strips of celluloid. In an age of digital media, this is a great chance for participants to get their hands dirty with real, old fashioned pieces of film.

Urban Gardening ~ Photography by Ulla Marquardt

Start: 2010-08-07 10:00

End: 2010-09-02 21:00

‘Urban Gardening’ examines Beijing city dwellers’ endeavour to secure a small plot of land to cultivate and grow vegetables. Even the tiniest, most unobtrusive piece of soil is good enough to evoke a sense of nature and rural life within the densely built metropolis. The small gardens hardly serve economic purposes but can mostly be seen as a link to the ‘citizen gardeners’ past and rural upbringing.

‘Urban gardening’

Duration 时间:
August 7th until September 2nd //

Civilization and harmony are the trends both time and human society follow.

However, a further trend is that animals die out while buildings spring up.
