GREEN QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Why are we being forced to choose between the economy and the environment? We tend to forget that without an environment we would not have an economy, as everything we consume and I mean everything comes from our environment."

~ Franke James (contemporary artist, photographer, writer)

GreenLadyC's picture

Greening the Beige is proud to announce its return at the INTRO 2011: Beijing Electronic Music Festival.

"The Carbon Cube" has been presented by GtB & friends on numerous occasions between 2009 - 2010, demonstrating the size and scale of the average person's carbon footprint per day. Drawing inspiration from this climate art (gift from 350.org Art Ambassador, Kevin Buckland) this year GtB returns with student volunteers from the Global Sustainable Leaders Forum & Central Academy of Fine Art to present

"THE GARBAGE CUBE"

Interactive Artwork Description

What's the big deal?
China’s urban landfills are expected to reach capacity by 2020.

So what?
Waste management solutions are not only critical to combat the rapid disappearance of environmental resources, but vital in solving China’s various pollution problems. For example, reducing the volume of household trash by one kilogram daily could cut carbon emissions by 2.06 kg per day – with China’s 370 million households combined, that’s a savings of 762.2 million kg of carbon emissions daily.

So what can I do about it?
Throughout the INTRO 2011 festival, please donate your trash materials to "The Garbage Cube", an interactive eco-art piece designed by Greening the Beige (点非成绿), volunteer students from the Central Academy of Fine Art & Global Sustainable Leaders Forum. These green cheerleaders will turn your trash into art during the party, teach you a thing or two about waste management and then recycle/dispose of your refuse properly after the festival is over. Xiexie and have a nice day!

For photos of the original artwork (The Carbon Cube) that inspired The Garbage Cube, please click here.

And for those who might want to get involved and lend a hand, we are still seeking at least 2 volunteers (no artistic/design experience necessary) to help run the cube from May 21-22 for a minimum of 5 hours each day (in exchange for 1 free pass -each- to the festival). Please send your statement of interest to info@greeningthebeige.org to apply.

Looking forward to hearing from ya soon!

Mad love to AR for making this opportunity for us to REACH OUT possible.

Treehugs'11.
