GREEN QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Why are we being forced to choose between the economy and the environment? We tend to forget that without an environment we would not have an economy, as everything we consume and I mean everything comes from our environment."

~ Franke James (contemporary artist, photographer, writer)

China’s Water Crisis Will Force Water Prices To Rise

The water crisis has intensified in recent months, particularly in water-starved Beijing and the rest of China’s north, causing the Beijing government to hold high-level meetings in which they decided, among other things, to limit industries that use potable water, including the beer, beverage, and bottled water industries.

Now, Caijing’s lead economist, Shen Minggao, is arguing that in order for China’s fresh water supply (6% of the world’s) to sustain its population (23% of the world’s), the government should raise the price of water. This, he argues, is the lever which will promote water conservation and, ultimately, sustainability.
