GREEN QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Why are we being forced to choose between the economy and the environment? We tend to forget that without an environment we would not have an economy, as everything we consume and I mean everything comes from our environment."

~ Franke James (contemporary artist, photographer, writer)

These are a few of my favorite "greens…" in Beijing

I would have to say restaurants: Vegan Hut, Loving Hut, Pure Lotus, and The Veggie Table (uses recyclable materials, as I'm sure u know) should be nominated for the veg. menus and the significant environmental benefits of eating veg. Special notice to restaurant Tianchu Miaoxiang because they give you a special card if you finish all your food…to encourage people not to waste!

I'm kinda sad to say that I can't think of many truly green businesses, or ones that even have some more green policies, but the Jump Foundation focuses on youth leadership activities and The Hutong seeks to use VERY minimal paper products, always reuse chopsticks, focus on reduction of food wastage, promote the use of public transportation to the venue and tours and keep heating and cooling to a minimum through the use of fans and windows.

I believe Wondermilk and Special Commune also have good track records for organic/green farming practices, and Roundabout Charity store is all about re-using! The Climate Group would also be a good resource for this, I think.
