GREEN QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Why are we being forced to choose between the economy and the environment? We tend to forget that without an environment we would not have an economy, as everything we consume and I mean everything comes from our environment."

HUGE 2nd Hand Book Fair & Call For Volunteers!

2011-09-17 10:00

Hi Everyone,

This is a quick note to announce the upcoming Roundabout Charity Distribution Store book fair and a polite request for more help!

Roundabout will be holding their LARGEST EVER second hand Book Fair at the British School of Beijing (Shunyi Campus) on Saturday 17th September 2011, from 10.00am - 3.00pm. We will have 1000's of books including both adult and children's fiction, picture books for smaller children and a large selection of special interest non fiction books available. We also have a great variety of Chinese language and other foreign language books .

Paperbacks will cost Y10 , with hardbacks at Y20 , with some coffee table books at a slightly higher price, and children's books from as little as Y1 - so there is sure to be something for all the family.

If you cannot make it on that day - the British School have kindly agreed to continue selling our books on site until Friday 14th October during school hours - 9.00 - 3.30pm . The books will be regularly replenished during that period and the continuation sale will be open to everyone in the community - so do pop along.

Earlier this year our book fair at the British school raised over Y60,000 to help 3 children to have the life saving surgery they needed and we are hoping to be able to do the same again this year.

Book Donations

Whilst we have a huge number of books available for this fair - we always need more! So if you have any books that you would be willing to donate then you can bring them along to the British School on Saturday 17th or also drop them off during opening hours at the Roundabout store . We are always in particular need of children's books as we donate many books to orphanages and migrant schools that so desperately need them. However we will accept any books that are in good condition.

Volunteers

Roundabout is looking for volunteers - due to some of our volunteers moving away from Beijing we now have the following volunteer positions:

Window Display Designer - responsible for weekly and seasonal window displays. Some merchandising/retail display experience and/or a creative, artistic mind would be a bonus.

Visual Merchandising Assistant - to create eye catching displays within the store. Stock turns over quickly so would suit someone who could volunteer for a few hours two or more times per week. Some merchandising/retail display experience and/or a creative, artistic mind would be a bonus.

Store Assistants – Volunteers are needed to work within our retail area greeting and assisting customers. This position would suit people with a cheerful personality. Requirements are a minimum of three hours per week. Ability to speak Chinese is a bonus.

Volunteer Coordinator - to work out volunteer schedules, keep volunteers updated on Roundabout events/holiday dates, etc. Do volunteer registrations and first day introductions as well as keep volunteer records. This position would be good for someone with a flexible schedule.

General Sorting – help sort through the large variety of donations generously given to Roundabout. Requirements are a minimum of three hours per day at least one time per week.

Book Sorters – all books are sorted and stored separately from general donations. Volunteers sorting books are given specialized training. Volunteers are also needed once a month on a Saturday to help at the book fairs.

If interested in volunteering for the Book Fair and/or to help with the books, please contact – Sally Hind, Book Fair/Books Coordinator - hindfamily@me.com or 15010698631.
