Dear Desert Dancers and GtB Supporters,
All of your creative energy and positive *green* synergy at our event made for a truly pleasant oasis. Wow! Given the massive amount of fun from the evening, please prepare for a massive message of thanks.
To start off, none of the festivities would have been possible without the value and contributions of the following folks:
Contempio Temple staff for their deeply generous support; for lending their elegant space; for helping with the event set-up/close; and for running the bar at cost!
Zhiqi aka Mr Soon for bringing his mixer and turntables (below rental cost), improvising as our sound engineer, and volunteering a 2 hour DJ set that got everyone hopping, clapping, and toe-tapping!
Yangjing for her graceful bellydancing performances and volunteer dedication and support. For those of you who don't know, she also teaches lessons in Beijing and is always welcoming new students. Just let me know if you'd like to get in contact with her!
The Talented Jess Meider (http://www.blog.jessmeider.com) and the magical support of Federico Moro (Beijing Jugglers/http://www.natooke.com) for bringing their love and light!
Club Obiwan for lending us their projector to screen documentaries from the Environmental Education Media Project for permission to show their films: "The Lessons of the Loess Plateau" and "A Line In The Sand" and the EEMP for the work that they do!
MC Terra D's lyrical wizardry and water management/desertified rhymes!
DJ Blackie loaning out his CD decks and putting out a monster dnb set that was more feirce than a sandstorm!
Photographer Cindy Pi with the green eye & City Weekend Beijing for the meta-memories!
http://www.wheelmeout.com for the poster & flyer design!
Featured photographers Oak Taylor-Smith & Kjell Gryspeert for contributing their work and offering unusual angles of city water usage and desert reality.
Fanrong (Jancy) & Iris Yee's terrific outreach buzz and set-up muscles!
ABCDJ Patrick Yu for supporting Greening the Beige since its beginnng and welcoming everyone to the oasis with his fresh beats and the deep rooted sound of Beijing Techno from Mickey Zhang sending everyone home for the night!
Electric Shadows for the incredible visual trip through Beijing and beyond to the desert + recording highlights from the night we'll be sharing with everyone soon in the form of a video montage!
Ines Brun, Julien Chol, Thomas Phillips, Aisling Dunn, and Iris Yee (again) for volunteering their time and welcoming everyone to our urban oasis!
And last but definitely not least, THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT GREEN ATMOSPHERE!
Desert Dance was part of a multi-city fundraiser stretching across North America as a "Benefit Without Borders" for Burners Without Borders (www.burnerswithoutborders.org)- or BWB.
BWB gave GtB permission to collect 100% of proceeds from Desert Dance to do the following: 1) develop this website as a public communication tool, 2) launch and produce the 3rd Annual GTB: RENERGIZE BEIJING this November, 3) support and offset the costs of hosting Desert Dance.
However, ticket sales just barely covered costs (greatly due to our artists’ labor of love). So we still stand at ground zero in terms of funding all of our outlandish green dreams…
No matter! GtB isn't giving up! This is only the beginning in so many respects. Since forming in 2007 GtB has existed as a fully self-supporting volunteer organism; meaning we have strongly relied on the generosity of all those involved in building a community platform that keeps us connected and active.
GTB is selling a limited number of posters (60x90cm) for 100 rmb to further our goals to green Beijing.
GTB is also extending the Desert Dance silent auction through August 10th:

COMING SOON...
On October 24th, Greening the Beige in collaboration with local environmental NGO partners plan to host a creative awareness event for International Day of Climate Action (www.350.org). 350 Organizer, Jamie Henn, and Art Ambassador, Kevin Buckland, were both in town and at Desert Dance to enjoy the evening with us.
Plans are now in motion for the big event which will link Beijing to over 1,000 cities around the world, culminating in the main event held at the United Nations in New York City. If you'd like to help out on October 24, please email us (info@greeningthebeige.org) and we’ll count you in.
Thanks again SO MUCH for supporting Greening the Beige and helping us to cultivate the seeds of green dreams and impossibilities...
All my green love,
GreenLadyC

MC Terra D:
ABCDJ Patrick Yu:
http://www.greeningthebeige.org/gtb/node/107
