As someone who's had the chance to enjoy the pristine natural environment of the Black Rock Desert, I don't consider this land my privilege as a US Citizen, but an inalienable right as a human being on this planet. Proposing use of this land as a waste management "solution" is not only a bold offense in terms of the harmful impact it will bring to the desert, its rich beauty, delicate ecosytem, and surrounding town communities, BUT AN OUTRIGHT SCANDAL THAT BUSINESSES AND "WASTE MANAGEMENT" COMPANIES ARE NEGLECTING VIABLE ALTERNATIVES TO RESOLVING THIS ISSUE IN THEIR OWN BACKYARD. Haul this trash back to corporate manufacturer sites and dump the 4,000 tons of hazardous crap on their frontyard where it belongs!

(By the way, this important bit of news was brought to me by Burners Without Borders, an organization that exists solely to inspire and mobilize creative action towards environmental tragedies. See what amazing things they're up to here: http://www.burnerswithoutborders.org/
I'm thinking of helping them out in Samoa this Christmas...

Thanks for highlighting this news. Months have passed since I last visited Black Rock Desert, but I still remember its stunning natural beauty -- definitely not a place for thousands of tons of garbage to be dumped.
