GtB'08 Warm up@ BJ Green Drinks

Join us on the eve of GtB '08 for BJ Green Drinks!

Greening the Beige will be hosting the July 8 gathering at the Stone Boat with special guest from Sun Fire Cooking, Jim Lindsay, who will present the short film, "Charcoal Traffic" (also screening at GtB on July 16).

Sun Fire Cooking promotes (Chinese made) solar cookers in north-eastern Somalia. It is dedicated to helping protect the region's fragile environment. Wood is the primary cooking fuel in Somalia. Indiscriminate tree cutting for cooking fuel has had a devastating effect leading to severe erosion and the loss of livelihood of the regions nomadic sheep and goat herders.

Sun Fire Cooking has made a short (7 minute) drama to highlight the conflict between charcoal makers and sheep herders. The drama is intended to promote discussion about the environmental issues involved in charcoal making. It is the first drama made in Somalia since the start of the civil war in 1991.
