Our keynote speaker, Dr. John MacKinnon, EU-China Biodiveristy Program (www.ecbp.cn) will present "Brown is also Green".

Here are a few words from Dr. MacKinnon to get you thinking:

"The word green has many meanings in English beyond just the colour. Green means young or un-tested.

In relation to the ancient May Day celebrations ‘green’ meant liberal, wild, natural.

Green also indicates a common ground or meeting place such as the village green rural towns and villages.

In modern environmental parlance ‘green’ means living in harmony with the natural environment. This talk promotes ‘green’ lifestyle options under the latter meaning and the title is meant to emphasise that we should not take the colour of green too literally.

Why do we need a clean environment? Some concerns of threats to our environment – biodiversity loss, climate change, alien weeds, desertification, loss of water resources, acid rain, urban pollution, overcrowded world."

• Clean 'green living'

• Shopping choices

• Eating choices

• Health choices

• Energy choices

• Awareness of country code
