GREEN QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Why are we being forced to choose between the economy and the environment? We tend to forget that without an environment we would not have an economy, as everything we consume and I mean everything comes from our environment."

Henna Based Hair Dye from India

GreenLadyC's picture

Just tested out the Black Rose/Kali Mehandi hair dye from the Indian Market in Sanlitun, and I'm very happy with the rave(n) results.

The "herbal based" ingredients include:

- herbal henna
-barium peroxide
-citric acid
-paraphenylendediamine

45 RMB for a box of five 10g sachets (so if you have short hair and color frequently, this is a stock buy).

Not only is it less expensive than all the more toxic stuff out there, but it leaves your hair completely free of laboratory smells. They carry 2 colors: red/black

The Indian Market is in between The Tree and Nearby The Tree, directly across from the police station. They also stock all kinds of fresh natural yogurts and cheeses, too.

It's a bit off subject but

It's a bit off subject but that shop also sells parachute coconut oil which is 100% natural and good for skin and hair (although it does make you smell like a coconut) so after you destroy your hair with dye you can massage it with coconut oil. You can also cook with it and it blasts zits too. We used to buy massive bottles of the stuff in India for everything.

thanks for the warning

yes, i realize this stuff is not really environmentally or people friendly.

apologies for not making that more clear in the original post.

after taking a 1.5 year break from coloring, i will say that my skin tends to be more irritated and sensitive when i have dye in my hair.

it's an old vice, and i'm thinking this is the last color job for me. still, i'll keep on the look-out for 100% natural henna...
