“The Great Green Race (GGR)” is a community competition to collect as much waste as possible in select park areas of Beijing within a 2-hr time period, developed by Greening the Beige in support of The Great Green Initiative, a collaborative campaign led by 10 prominent youth organizations with shared ambitions: to create 'green' youth culture in China and spur its sustainable development.
The goal of The Great Green Race activity is to increase public awareness surrounding consumption and waste management issues, while empowering individual city residents to contribute toward creative solutions that address these problems.
Coinciding with the launch of The Great Power Race - a clean energy competition between students in China, India, and the United States that focuses on tackling global climate change – The Great Green Race aims to inspire a spirit of friendly competition and community collaboration to help reduce the inefficiency of public landfills and environmental white pollution.
Additionally, The Great Green Race will contribute towards a community “Trash Art Sculpting” at the 10/10/10 Beijing Climate Party! All teams will contribute waste collected from the competition to create a sculpture for public display, sending a message to the community about the value of sorting and re-using “trash”.
GGR Teams
The Great Green Race will be held on 10/10/10 from 10am - 12pm.
Representatives of companies, embassies, local government officials, schools, students (including local students from the Great Power Race), families, and the general public are eligible to participate.
All teams are encouraged to choose a team name + dress in costume during the race! The best costumes/team names will be voted for on 10/10/10 with additional great green 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes awarded to the winners.
