By now, many of our friends in Beijing are familiar with The Carbon Cube, an art installation gifted to GtB by Kevin Buckland, 350.org Art Ambassador. As always, Kevin has been a true inspiration to Greening the Beige and shining example of how art and artists can act as a vehicle for change. Thought I'd share what incredible things Kevin's been up to lately, and a recent email I got the other day:
Hello from Kevin at 350.org Barcelona.
I am writing with some exciting news:
I have been invited to join the Capefarewell Art and Science Expedition to the Arctic Circle. In less then a week, I will join 20 other artists and scientists and board a wooden sailboat and sail around Svalbard for 22 days (aka no email access). I am deeply looking forward to this time- to reflect on the ways in which we may most effectively communicate what we see up there, and what the scientists know to be true about climate change and the growing signs of a coming climate crisis.
To follow the expedition:
there will be daily updates from the artists and scientists on the Capefarewell Website (www.capefarewell.com),
you can follow the project on their facebook page
I will be posting occasional blog updates onto the 350.org homepage
and you can follow my personal reactions on my twitter feed: change_of_art
Any amplification of these outlets would be appreciated.
I will be out of email range until early October, when I will rush back to Barcelona to help organize for The Global Day of Climate Action on October 10th (10:10:10). Should the stories and images from the north stir something in you, this is a good outlet.
You can read some of the pieces I've written during travels this past year on my (rather inconsistent) blog: askevinwanders.wordpress.com
And finally!
Check out this 2 minute video some painter friends and I did a few weeks ago.
I am well, happy, concerned, enamoured, and inspired.
May you be aswell.
Be love,
Kevin
