Since withdrawing support for the Kyoto Protocol, the United States has never been particularly known for its environmentally conservative efforts.
This past summer, Bill McKibben and three students attempted to change this view by reinstating solar power into the White House.
For this eventful trip, 350.org found the original solar panels President Jimmy Carter installed on the White House roof in the 1970s on Unity College’s cafeteria roof in Maine. The university sent one large solar panel and three students with Bill McKibben to petition the Obama administration to allow the panel back on the White House. Through trials and tribulations, rallies and signings, they reached Washington D.C. only to be met with disappointment.

Though his trip ended in disappointment, satisfaction was just around the corner. On October 6th, just 4 days before the start of Global Work Party Weekend, the Obama administration announced they will be putting solar panels on the First Family’s living quarters! This is a big step for the image of the U.S. and hopefully will be a positive influence elsewhere.
On 10/10/10 the green movement grows with the International Day of Climate Action. Across the globe volunteers are organizing local events to improve the environment. Examples of local activities include a lake clean up in Mumbai, a bicycle powered music festival in Barcelona, and the Great Green Race in Beijing. Thanks a lot for sharing this
Thanks a lot for sharing this very interesting. Going green is what most of us aiming for these days. The solar panel has one of the msot hot debate in the country. Somehow, it's a good idea to have such energy source, but eventually this can only be used in the morning, as the energy comes from the sun. However, it's still a big help to every family on saving not only energy but as well as money to pay for their electric bill. Nevertheless, helps reducing pollution as it doesn't emit carbon in the air. That's only few of the advantages of this solar panel, but still a big debate is on going on whether to put panel in every home or not. Well, I just hope their decision would be good for the environment.
