The China Charity Challenge's inaugural event, The Roots & Shoots Yunnan Bicycle Challenge is an innovative adventure philanthropy project launched in partnership with The Jane Goodall Institute http://www.rootsandshoots.org.
We aspire to develop a successful model for adventure travel in China that is intimately connected to good causes. Our approach aims to benefit the local region directly through a long-term approach to sustainable development and responsible travel, and in a broader context also raises national environmental conscience through empowering Chinese youth to change the future of their communities.
Over October holiday this year, 30 intrepid riders will take part in the 2009 challenge enduring an 8-day ride which crosses through some of China’s most ethnically diverse, culturally rich, and naturally scenic areas. The route begins in Lijiang, Yunnan and traverses through the spectacular breathtaking scenery the North-Western part of the province, crosses through the tranquil Mosu minority communities at Lugu lake in Sichuan, before finally ending in Xichang, Sichuan.
