GREEN QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Why are we being forced to choose between the economy and the environment? We tend to forget that without an environment we would not have an economy, as everything we consume and I mean everything comes from our environment."

~ Franke James (contemporary artist, photographer, writer)

Beijing Energy Network Wants YOU!

2011-04-13 20:00

Are you interested in helping to map out the future of BEN by planning events and implement new programs?

As BEN continues to grow, we are looking for fresh enthusiasm and new ideas to ensure BEN continues to serve its mission and members.

Next Wednesday, April 13th, 8pm at Abella, we will hold an open governance meeting on the management of BEN. All regular BEER attendees are invited, but you must RSVP to this e-mail by Monday, April 11th if you want to attend. In the event that you are interested but have unavoidable obligations, still RSVP by the 11th, and we will update you afterward. Please note that there will be no regular BEER event again until April 20th.

Below are some topics that will be discussed at the meeting, but please come with your own ideas as well:

1) BEN governance: adding new members to the organizing committee and delegating responsibilities
2) Potential new BEN events and programs
3) Diversifying membership and expanding participation

BEN is also looking for more speakers for future BEER events. As the BEN community is made possible by knowledge sharing among people, we are eager to extend the pipeline of interesting BEER presentations for the future to all BEN members.

Please note that being an expert in your field or having years of experience is NOT a prerequisite. We welcome people who are enthusiastic about presenting any interesting energy or environmental topic relating to China that they are working on. We are open to presentations in either Chinese or English.

If you are interested in speaking, please submit the following information to Daniel Enking, daniel.enking@gmail.com:

1) Your proposed topic
2) Why you believe this topic is important to discuss at BEER
3) Brief outline of your experience in this area
4) Your availability:
- until what date do you expect to be in Beijing/ are you willing to speak?
- Can you be available on short-notice?
- Remember, BEER is always held on Wednesday evenings

While we are open to all topics, below are some we are looking to cover with future events:

- Green buildings / architecture
- Carbon finance / carbon markets
- Urban planning
- Chinese NGOs working in the environmental sector
- Land use and biodiversity
- Water pollution
- International IP & technology exchange issues
- Nuclear
- Financing Clean Energy (ESCOs, venture capital/private equity, banking system, etc.)

BEN is all about sharing information and sparking dialogue. You don't have to be an expert to have an opinion, or have a lot of experience to be an organizer. We want to hear from you - so step up and join the discussion!
