GREEN QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Why are we being forced to choose between the economy and the environment? We tend to forget that without an environment we would not have an economy, as everything we consume and I mean everything comes from our environment."

~ Franke James (contemporary artist, photographer, writer)

**Good (and bad) News for Organic Food Lovers**

Green Greetings, Beijing Peeps!

吃过了吗?

Since my last blog entry here touching on local eats and locavorism (http://www.greeningthebeige.org/gtb/node/302), I've decided to go on a quest that will transform me from the inside out. Simply by eating different foods. The goal is to improve my overall well being, while also doing something good for the global ecosystem.

So, if anyone out there was looking for more guidance or input on doing the same, I thought I'd share this interview with GtB member, Yinghui Zhang Carraro, on the topic:

Arbor Day Party, this Friday – Let’s celebrate trees!
爱树派对上“别吃朋友”的环保歌声及美味素食品尝也十分值得期待!

March 12th is “Chinese Arbor Day” (Tree-planting Day), and we are teaming up with local grassroots organizations to host a party Celebrating Trees! There will be local bands playing live music with environmental messages, lots of vegetarian snacks, and we will show a brief film of the recent Roots & Shoots Nature Walk celebrating trees, at which young people, together with their parents and teachers, learned about trees in Beijing and how we can all contribute to their care and protection. Local NGOs and experts will be on hand to talk about why we’ve made the choice to celebrate trees instead of planting more in the Beijing area.3月12日又是植树节啦!

On the “Spirit” of Lei Feng

Taken from "A Modern Lei Feng".

March 5th is officially the day marked to celebrate Lei Feng, the Chinese soldier who was known for his selfless deeds in helping others and died a tragic death at a young age only to be venerated as a national hero when his diary was suddenly discovered. Therefore, every year on March 5th, Chinese, mainly students, are told to celebrate the spirit of Lei Feng by doing certain charitable works around their city.

YES! Happy 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC)! ! !

And mad props to Pu Cunxin.

(Oh how I wish more of my own national leaders would exercise more PEDAL POWER)

It's so refreshing when you finally come across the (increasing) bit of good green news in The Red Republic.

Thanks to China Green News for bringing this and so much more to our attention!
